Tai Yokomori
Tai Yokomori, a Canadian-Japanese oboist, began studying his instrument at the age of 16. In 2021, he was a finalist in both the Medici International Music Competition and the King’s Peak International Music Competition and received an honourable mention at the Corcoran Concerto Competition. In 2022, he toured Canada with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, which awarded him the BMO Award of Excellence in 2023.
Tai Yokomori has been invited to perform as principal with several Canadian orchestras, including the Niagara Symphony Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He has also played with ensembles such as the Ontario Philharmonic and the Esprit Orchestra. In May 2024, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall as principal oboe with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra led by Peter Oundjian.
Tai Yokomori earned his bachelor’s degree from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, where he studied with Theodore Baskin. He recently completed his artist diploma at the Glenn Gould School under Sarah Jeffrey and will begin a new chapter at the Juilliard School in the fall of 2024, studying with Nathan Hughes.
